New York Fashion Week Predictions

Today marks a very exciting time in the world of fashion that only happens twice a year. That’s right. I’m talking about New York fashion week! As a fashion enthusiast myself, I can confirm that this is one of the most exciting times of the year. It’s all about getting cued in on what’s to come in the world of fashion, seeing where we’ve been and where we’re going.

Earlier this year, during the spring fashion week, we saw lots of bold colors, loud patterns, shiny fabrics, and overall exciting looks. These notes have influenced and infiltrated the looks we’ve seen throughout the warmer months, but now things are starting to cool back down. It’s time to get ready for the colder months by embracing new looks and designers.

Today may only be the first day of this week-long event, but we have already started seeing people getting dolled up in preparation. Here are some predictions for what we’ll see on the runways and streets this week.

I am anticipating a continuation of some of the trends we’ve been seeing this year in terms of colors, prints, and silhouettes, but with a few adjustments in the ways, they’re applied.

Last night at Christian Siriano’s fashion show, many were pleasantly surprised by the appearance of Jannet Jackson, who showed up in a sheer mesh piece and long flowing blazer look. What she wore set the tone for the show and possibly the week. Her look was sharp, elegant, and strong. These are the cornerstones of what’s to come this week.

I mean, what I say when I say that sharp angular looks are in. A more angular silhouette is anticipated through the appearance of blazers, straight-leg pants, and overall, well-structured pieces. These, in conjunction with more decadent fabrics and indulgent colors and prints, are sure to be spotted this week.

Christian Siriano said it best in an interview for Enews last night when he described this season as being “a return to glamor.” He stated that glamor and Hollywood beauties like Jannet Jackson, Audrey Hepburn,  and Bianca Jagger, served as his inspiration. With this being said, I think it will be easier to look to the past to predict the future. With glamor and Hollywood icons being the keywords, it is also safe to assume that we will see a rise in more decadent looks. I’m talking tulle, velvet, ruffles, feathers, anything that sparkles or says, “look at me!” One thing in particular that I know we’ll be seeing is gloves. Whether they’re opera gloves or built-in to a dress or blouse, we are going to see them. After all, nothing says glamor like a pair of velvet opera gloves.
