Reggaeton Artist of the Month for April 2025
Nick Rivera Caminero aka Nicky Jam is a Puerto-Rican American singer-songwriter. Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Rivera grew an interest in music and rap after his family moved to Puerto Rico.n His first step into the music industry came at age 11 when he was signed onto record for a local indie label. He released his first EP at age fourteen.
He slowly began to gain popularity and even met his idol Daddy Yankee, but his drug use started to take a toll on his work. He had collaborated with Yankee in the duo group Los Cangris until 2004 when RIvera’s behavior due to his drug use reached a boiling point.
Years passed until he began making a comeback in the early 2010s with the singles Voy a Beber and Travesuras. Rivera gained even more attention with a collaboration with Enrique Iglesias on the single El Perdón in 2015. Rivera’s career continued to climb, collaborating with popular artists like Sean Paul, El Alfa, J Balvin, Kid Ink, Will Smith, Diplo, and Era
In 2016, his song “Hasta el Amanecer” became his first song to reach one billion views on YouTube. The song won the Billboard Music Award for Top Latin Song at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards. It also won the Urban Song of the Year and was nominated for Single of the Year at the 29th Lo Nuestro Awards.
