Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has stated on an interview with FOX News, Tuesday, that the U.S. has “never been a racist country”. Nikki Haley, 51, is an American politician, and former South Carolina Governor, who also happens to be a woman of color (she is an Indian American woman).
FOX News’ Brian Kilmeade interviewed Mrs. Haley, and this statement came about when he asked her to share her thoughts about MSNBC Host Joy Reid’s comments expressing her doubt about her in the race saying that: “she’s still a brown lady that’s gotta try to win in a party that is deeply anti-immigrant.”
She responded saying that Joy Reid lives in a different America than what she knows, she agreed saying that she is a brown girl who grew up in a small rural town, but she was able to accomplish the “American Dream”, she was still able to become the first “female minority governor in history”, a UN Ambassador, and a presidential candidate. She proudly and inspirationally expressed that people’s doubts in her will not stop her, and that she will continue to prove the nay-sayers wrong.
“Are you a racist party, are you involved in a racist party?” Kilmeade then subsequently asked.
“No! We’re not a racist country Brian, we’ve never been a racist country, our goal is to make sure that today is better than yesterday, are we perfect? No, but our goal is to always make sure we try and be more perfect every day that we can,” Haley replied.
She also said that she faced racism growing up, but that the U.S. is much better than it was before, and that our goal is to lift up everyone, not divide everyone. Nikki’s campaign spokesperson followed up with a statement, further clarifying her comments stating that: “America has always had racism, but America has never been a racist country. The liberal media always fails to get that distinction”, as per CNN News.
