NYC LAW ENFORCEMENT GROUP “GUARDIAN ANGELS” TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE TO ANNOUNCE INCREASED SUBWAY PATROLS AFTER MORE ATTACKS ON INNOCENT RIDERS
PUBLIC SAFETY MEASURES TO BE ANNOUNCED AS SUBWAY RESUMES OVERNIGHT HOURS
50TH & LEXINGTON (2/17/2021, 10:30 A.M.): Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels, will be joined by dozens of fellow Guardian Angels in a press conference to announce increased patrols on the New York City subway system to combat a recent surge in violent crime just days before the public transit system resumes overnight hours. On Tuesday, two women, 58 and 71, were assaulted in separate unprovoked attacks.
Felony and misdemeanor assaults are up 57 percent so far this year, according to the MTA. Guardian Angels will announce new public safety measures to help keep platforms and train-cars safe for riders during the overnight hours, with service resuming through at 2 a.m. and beginning again at 4 a.m. Hundreds of Guardian Angels will be strategically deployed to stations and subway cars across the city, to help MTA workers and straphangers stay safe. Guardian Angels Officials will be distributing flyers to straphangers on how to avoid being pushed onto the tracks, and what to do if you end up on the tracks.
