Latin Artist of the Month for November 2022
Born Omar Velasco, Apollo was born and raised in Hobart, Indiana, where he received his first guitar at the age of 12 as a gift from his parents. He credits his love for music to his uncle, who helped give hom early guidance on how to play guitar. By high school, Apollo started recording his own songs from his laptop. After dropping out of college in 2015, he decided to dedicate himself to his music full-time.
Known for his laid-back, alternative soul sound, Omar Apollo first appeared online back in 2016, posting songs on Soundcloud like “{}[]” and “Brakelights” He quickly rose to fame with the release of his first EP, Stereo, and his full-length debut, Apolonio, which arrived in 2020.
In 2021, he gathered two Latin Grammy nominations for Record of the Year and Best Alternative Song for “Te Olvidaste,” which was a collaboration with Spanish singer C. Tangana. Recently, Apollo released a full-length album, Ivory, in April 2022 and included guest appearances from Daniel Caesar and Kalu Uchis.
