Fear is growing amongst voters and politicians that former president Donald Trump may try to convert the U.S’s nonpartisan military into a more dictatorial one if elected. These fears are reportedly stemming from comments that he has made in which dictatorship and the devaluing of checks and balances is reflected. According to Yahoo News, while Trump was president appointees have veered him away from such radical ideas that would have challenged the limits of power granted to a president based on “books they’ve written” and “testimony given to Congress”.
One of the many comments Trump has made regarding dictatorship include his interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity when Mr. Hannity tells/asks Trump; “Under no circumstances, you are promising America tonight, you would never abuse power as retribution against anybody”
“Except for day one… We’re closing the border, and we’re drilling, drilling, drilling after that i’m not a dictator,” he replies.
More than half of all voters additionally, are convinced that Trump will be a dictatorial president if re-elected, 56 percent somewhat agree while 40 percent strongly agree, according to a recent poll and The Hill.
Trump has reportedly raised new questions about his political plans if re-elected by “putting forward a legal theory” in which a president can do basically anything he wants, including killing political rivals, given that Congress doesn’t ramp up the votes to impeach him thus throwing him out of office, as per Yahoo News.
Trump obviously believes that these fears along with Biden’s fears of him being a “threat to democracy” are all political “ploys” used by Biden, based on a recent interview Mr. Trump had with FOX News.
