Pfizer had started trials on 12-15 year old’s a couple weeks ago. The results showed that the Pfizer vaccine is 100% effective for ages 12-15. These trials have been performed because 12-15 year old’s are not eligible to get the vaccine currently. Pfizer has stated that the authorization of the vaccine should be allowed for 12-15 year old’s. The side effects for ages 12-15 were similar to the side effects of ages 16-25.
Pfizer will continue to do trials with younger age groups to test the effectiveness of their vaccine. As more people become eligible to get the vaccine, it gives younger age groups the chance to get the vaccine making these trials important. Moderna will also start testing younger age groups to see the effectiveness of their vaccine. The Covid-19 vaccine could be available to 12-15 year old’s in July or August but there is still no official date. The vaccine could be available to children 11 or younger in November, but not in time for the start of school.
