Rihanna has become a mom! The singer gave birth to her first child with A$AP Rocky on May 13. The news was made public just yesterday. She first announced her pregnancy in January when she was photographed holding hands with her partner while taking a walk in New York City.
We are still to find out the baby’s name. Although some fans believe they have guessed it, and they have been putting the name “Red Ivy” out there, it has not officially been revealed yet. Back in February, Us Weekly reported that the couple wished to honor their heritage by giving the baby a Barbadian name.
“They want both of their cultures included. It is very important to them to keep where they are from passed down to their child,” a source said.
Rihanna looked fabulous all throughout her pregnancy, wearing outfit after outfit of daring, bump-baring runway looks at events like Milan Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week. In an April interview for Vogue, the Fenty founder shared her approach to maternity style, stating she was hoping to redefine the concept of a decent ensemble for a pregnant woman. “My body is doing incredible things right now, and I’m not going to be ashamed of that. This time should feel celebratory. Because why should you be hiding your pregnancy?” she questioned.
At a Fenty event, she told People that applying makeup and getting dressed up were the things that made her feel like herself again. “When you put on a little face and a little lipstick, you transform,” she explained. “You put some clothes on, and it’s like, when you look good, you feel good. I’ve heard that for a very long time, but it’s true.”
She also revealed during an interview that her pregnancy was an unplanned but welcomed surprise. “Planning? I wouldn’t say planning. But certainly not planning against it,” she said. “And then it was just there on the test. Then I was in the doctor’s office the next morning and our journey began.”
In between pregnancy and fashion events, Rihanna still found the time to reassure her fans that her long-awaited follow-up to 2016’s Anti is still on the way. Released back in 2016, Anti is RiRi’s last album. It peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and it was certified platinum only two days after its release.
Although she sometimes likes to antagonize her fans by telling them to grow up or that their comments are “soooo 2019” when they pressure her for a new album, she has also tried to appease them by stating that her new studio work is coming. “My fans would kill me if they waited this long for a lullaby,” she joked back in February.
The last time we saw Rihanna was on May 9 in Los Angeles for Mother’s Day, when she and Rocky had dinner at Giorgio Baldi. Then on May 10, the Diamonds singer abruptly stopped posting on social media, which raised fans’ suspicions that she was about to give birth soon.
And they were on to something. Even though news of the baby being born was officially shared yesterday, fans had found out before this confirmation. Someone posted on Twitter that a hospital worker leaked the news of the birth on Friday.
“Somebody posted on Facebook that Rihanna had her baby at a hospital they’re working at and said it’s a boy talking about how they cleared that floor level. Y’all be risking your careers and jobs to tell celebrities business,” they wrote.
In spite of the glamor, the star’s pregnancy has not been completely drama-free. A$AP was arrested a month ago as the couple’s private plane arrived at LAX. Police said that the bust was in connection to a November 2021 shooting in L.A. where Rocky was accused of grazing the hand of an acquaintance. However, he’s been released on a $550,000 bail, and Rihanna has continued to show her support for her beau by attending his shows backstage.
