Who doesn’t love a good love story? If you’re a Rom-Com lover like me and sometimes need a good sob to a sappy story, here are my top picks.
I’ve gathered about five of my favorites for you guys, so I’m going to list them and give you a little insider about them.
Sweet Home Alabama
Sweet Home Alabama has a soft spot in my heart as it is all about a little girl who started out in a small town and decided to chase her dreams of being a fashion designer. Making it big, “Melanie” the main character played by Reese Witherspoon, grows up and moves to New York. She forgets about her husband, whom she grew up with, as they have not spoken for years after a vast disagreement.
Melanie finds love in the big apple with a new man; as he asks for her hand in marriage, Melanie has no choice other than to head back to Alabama so Jake can give her a big fat divorce. After coming home, Melanie realizes more than just her life has changed and questions if her fiancé in New York is really the one for her.
10 things I hate about you
Oh man, where do I start? Kat Stratford, played by (Julia Stiles), is beautiful, rebellious, and a little bit of an oddball compared to other teens her age. Quite the contrary compared to her sister Bianca. Unfortunately for her younger sister Bianca, her dad says that she can’t date until Kate dates too, and that includes prom. Pulling strings so Bianca can dance the night away, Kat is soon falling into a trap or non less Patrick’s arms.
Overboard 1987
I have watched the sequel, but I can’t seem to love it just as much as I love the original. Overboard is heart-melting, hilarious and charming. My heart always ends up in a knot at the end. Joana, the main character, is filthy rich, sailing on her yacht and eating caviar; her husband Grant is not head over heels for her; instead, her heels go over her head into the ocean. Joana ends up suffering from amnesia, losing her memory, and Grant turns blind. Abandoning his wife in the hospital, no other than the single dad carpenter she refused to pay comes to pick her up. Falling in love with the carpenter and his four sweet children, Joana finds the missing piece that her life was so long without.
The Notebook
My boyfriend’s personal favorite is the notebook. This is a Rom-Com classic and has been a favorite for years and years; if you have never watched it, you are just going to have to. It’s 1940 in South Carolina, and everyone is having fun this summer except Allie; with lessons to attend and piano to practice, her days are jam-packed full. Noah makes sure to squeeze into her schedule, falling in love Noah and Allie are separated sooner rather than later, with her parent’s disapproval. Noah goes off to serve in World War II. It seems the romance is all over, but maybe in all truth, it is just the beginning.
Sleepless in Seattle
Every time I fly into Seattle, Washington, the first thing that comes to mind is the Rom-Com Sleepless In Seattle. Sam recently lost his beloved wife and packed everything up, and moved to Seattle with his son. Sam’s son Jonah calls into a talk-radio program in an effort to find his dad a new wife. Annie Reed hears the talk show and, even though she is engaged, writes a letter to him asking to meet her at the top of the Empire State Building on Valentine’s Day.
