On Sunday Ron DeSantis endorsed his rival Donald Trump for President of the United States of America as he suspended his Republican presidential campaign. A move that now leaves the former POTUS leader and Nikki Halley to fight for the GOP nomination.
“It is clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” DeSantis commented.
The suspension of his presidential campaign came right before the New Hampshire primaries. Although the dropout isn’t surprising considering the thirty-point disparity between himself and Trump, the decision does mark the decline for what may have seemed like the only legitimate threat to Trump, according to voters.
“If there was anything I could do to produce a more favorable outcome — more campaign stops, more interviews — I would do it. But I can’t ask our volunteers to volunteer their time and donate their resources if we don’t have a clear path to victory,” DeSantis said.
Despite hearing about DeSantis’ support for Trump, Halley commended DeSantis on his role as a governor and wished him well. Trump, putting aside months of rivalry, welcomed his newest supporter.
“He ran a great campaign for president…this [campaigning for president] isn’t easy. People think it’s easy, but it’s not,” Trump said.
With the news making American voters realize that only two candidates, Donald Trump and Nikki Halley, are now in the running for the Republican nomination, many speculate what the months ahead will bring. It is only January after all.
