San Francisco Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee, outfielder for the San Francisco Giants is out due to a shoulder injury from Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
According to ESPN, Hoo Lee had crashed into the right-center field wall in an attempt to catch a drive from Cincinnati’s Jeimer Candelario. Lee had hit the wall with his left shoulder and accrued significant “structural damage” which was revealed following an MRI scan on Monday. Lee was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday. The Giants will likely reveal a fuller update after Lee meets with Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Thursday, according to Giants manager Bob Melvin.
“Once he gets to ElAttrache we’ll have a timeline,” said Melvin to reporters. “We’re getting a second opinion to make sure we have all our t’s crossed and i’s dotted.”
Lee isn’t the only Giants outfielder that has been injured over the weekend. Giant’s outfielders Austin Slater and Michael Confortin were placed on the 7-day and 10-day injured lists respectively.
Slater suffered a concussion after hitting the outfield wall in Friday’s game. For Conforti, he strained his hamstring while running the bases on Saturday.
Lee was one of the big off-season additions for the Giants after starring for years playing professionally in his country of South Korea.
Lee had signed a six-year contract with the Giants worth $113 million as a center fielder. Before joining the Giants, Lee had years of experience playing professionally in South Korea, playing as an outfielder for the Kiwoom Heroes before signing with the Giants.
To fill up the remaining spots left open by the recent injuries, the Giants called up top prospects Heliot Ramos and Luis Matos to the roster. Giants’ catcher Patrick Bailey also returned to the roster after recovering from a concussion. Currently, Mike Yastrzemski is the Giant’s only remaining full-time outfielder.
“It means a lot,” said Ramos. “I’m just trying to help the team. I’m trying to do my best. I’ve been trying since 2022 when I made my debut. I feel like I’m in a good spot. I just want to keep playing hard and trying to make the best of this opportunity.”
