Early on Saturday I showed up to check in with the patrols with my son Anthony who at 17 has been a Junior Guardian Angel, trains with Super Stretch in Washington Heights and has renewed patrolling after being in lockdown at home because of the pandemic. He was amazed at the turnout on a day where it was below freezing.
Chelsea is being led by Miguel Ortiz who has slowly built up this patrol from scratch. The community has been so grateful because the police have been reactive and not proactive. The Guardian Angels have filled the void.
In Chinatown Madonna and Sifu John have built this unit into a patrol that hits the streets and subways 3X a week. There are Asians, Blacks, Whites, Hispanics , Males and Females working together to help their neighborhoods and city as crime is on the rise. As the temperatures plummeted the Guardian Angels stepped up their activity.
