Scottie Scheffler Wins His First Masters Championship

Finally – the results have arrived! After hours and hours of the grueling golf tournament, an answer arrives, and it is not Tiger Woods who wins this time, but rather it is Scottie Scheffler who wins his First Masters Championship. At age 25, Scheffler was able to win against Rory McIlroy and Cameron Smith by three strokes. The purse contains $11,500,000. Scheffler’s wife, Meredith Scudder, was seen tearing up on his victory on television.

Throughout the tournament, Scheffler was calm. He felt stressed out on Sunday, saying, “I cried like a baby. I was so overwhelmed. I don’t think I’m ready for this.” Winning the Masters meant a lot to him. In the previous tournaments he participated in, he hasn’t felt the stress up to this height yet. Scheffler adds, “I’ve felt at peace on the golf course. It’s off the course that’s hard for me. But I did a good job of keeping my concentration when playing. I calmed right down when I got to the golf course.”

A New Jersey native raised in Texas, this competition was his fourth tour victory in the past six events he participated in. Some of those tournaments included the Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and the World Golf Championships Match Play. He received the number one ranking for the best player in golf.

In regards to the final hole, Scheffler said, “As I said, I didn’t break my concentration all day; the only time I did was on the 18th green. I was thinking that now I can enjoy this. And you saw what happened.” Scheffler had the birdie on the 14th hole. Then, he did a second shot at the par-5 15th hole by the grove of pine trees and settled up his final birdie.

Scudder and Scheffler had a daring kiss on the green. His wife exclaimed, “‘Who are you to say that you are not ready?’ What we talked about is that God is in control and that the Lord is leading me; and if today is my time, it’s my time.”

Scheffler said that it has been his dream to get in this tournament. If one were to win any tournament, they would need to get into this one. Justin Thomas, another professional golfer, said that he was impressed to see someone so young win the Masters Tournament.

Scheffler now has four PGA tour victories. He will be joining Zach Johnson and Bubba Watson in the Korn Ferry Tour at the The Landings Club – Deer Creek Course.
