Photographer of the Month for October 2020

Bio

Steve Mccurry was born in Philidelphia Pennsylvania.  He Studied cinematography at Pennsylvania state university and went on to work for a newspaper. 

In traveling to Pakistan, McCurry met a group of refugees from Afghanistan where he captured images of the Russian invasion.  Since this initial trip, McCurry has been inspired to capture moments across all continents.  His photography captures conflicts, cultures, traditions, as well as contemporary pieces as well. 

 

He has been awarded the Robert Capa Gold Medal, National Press Photographers Award, and four first prize awards from the World Press Photo Contest.  His most recent achievement was awarded by the Royal Photographic Society in London.  McCurry was given the Centenary Medal for Lifetime Achievement and was inducted into the international Photography Hall of Fame in 2019
