H&M Keeps Up with the Times

After a string of successful high-fashion collaborations—including lines with Lanvin, Jimmy Choo, Robert Cavalli, Madonna and Karl Lagerfield, among others—the discount retailer is bringing Versace’s high fashion to the masses. The collection will consist of about 40 pieces for women and 20 pieces for men. The women’s line will be comprised of a mesh of bright colors with scenic prints, gold and black studded leather dresses, crazy tights and purses that emulate the same, as well as high heels, and costume jewelry. The men’s line will focus on sharp tailoring, including a tuxedo as well as belts and jewelry. Donatella said she is taking inspiration from Versace’s archives all the way from 1978 to today using “iconic Versace pieces [from] iconic Versace moments”. Prices start at $19.99 for jewelry and run up to $299 for the dresses. And for the first time in a designer collaboration at H&M, the collection will feature house ware pieces, including cushions and a bedspread. If you’re dying for a sneak peek ahead of the November launch, the lookbook has already been released online. The full line will be available in 300 stores around the world, which is but a fraction of the 2,300 stores thriving in 41 countries. But if Versace is not in your town, don’t fret. It will also be available online.
Adding to the excitement, H&M already has another collaboration in the works, set to release right after Versace’s run. It will be based on the likes of Lisbeth Salander, the lead character from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. The film’s costume designer, Trish Summerville, tapped into Lisbeth’s grimy, extreme and worn down style, using a twist of femininity as well as stylish grit in her approach. The line will consist of platform wedges with studs, tribal-style earrings, hoodies, leather boots and biker style leathers jackets. It will be available in stores December 14th, a week before the movie’s release on December 21st. I’m personally more interested in the Versace line, but I will definitely have to check out those tribal earrings. H&M has something for everyone and we do indeed love the prices.
