While the nationwide teacher shortage persists, with educators quitting due to low salaries and burnout following the pandemic, this Ohio protest concerns the rights of the students more than the teachers.

Bill de Blasio Sparks Outrage From Italian Americans by Removing Columbus Day from School Calendars

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has found himself in hot water with Italian American New Yorkers after he removed Columbus Day from the school calendar for the upcoming year and replaced it with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. The city’s Department of Education released the updated calendar for schools in New York, and October 11th, which has long been the day to celebrate Christopher Columbus, was blocked off as Indigenous Peoples’ Day, which has been changed to Italian Heritage Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day after the uproar.
