The lipstick combination immediately became a must-have beauty trend amongst white beauty influencers and influencees. After seeing the trend myself, I quickly realized that the new revolutionary trend was not all that revolutionary. It was nothing more than lining your lips with brown lip liner and topping them off with gloss. If I am being honest, I did not initially see the original TikTok of her presenting her new lip combo trend; I had just seen the numerous TikTok responses from black beauty creators expressing their disdain over how an everyday beauty staple in the black and brown community is now being remarketed as the “hot new trend” with no credit to the originators.
