New York has been targeted for its non-inclusive gender labels on state documents. Democrat & Chronicle describes a case in March in which the New York Civil Liberties Union sued the state Office of Temporary Disability Assistance for lacking a nonbinary option on its application. ABC said that a 2015 survey found that, “Nearly two-thirds of transgender New Yorkers said none of their IDs had the name and gender they preferred.”
