Florida Rejects AP African American Studies Class
A new Advanced Placement course on African American studies will not be offered in Florida’s high schools because it is not “historically accurate.” According to the letter sent last week, the Florida Department of Education informed the College Board, which administers AP exams, that it would not include the class in the state’s course directory. Rigorous A.P. courses allow high school students to obtain credit and advanced placement in college.

President of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition and chairmen of Floridians for a Fair Democracy, Desmond Meade, spearheaded Amendment 4 in 2018, which expanded voting rights to former felons, excluding those who had been charged with murder or felony sex offenses. This amendment re-franchised 1.4 million felons with voting rights. It’s been four years since Floridian voters expanded voting rights to felons, yet, today Governor Desantis continues to defy the ruling of his own constituents by attempting to prevent felons from accessing their newly found civil rights.
Why Biden Says Republicans are “Playing Politics” with Immigration Stunt
President Biden spoke at the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute gala on Thursday addressing the latest Republican drama, regarding the relocation of immigrants as a media stunt. In his address, he referred to Republican officials as “un-American” stating that they were “playing politics” and that their tactics are “wrong and reckless.” This oppositional sentiment is shared by many who are also referring to the political move as inhumane and simply, cruel. Whitehouse press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre called it a “cruel, premeditated political stunt,” backing up her statement by explaining that Fox news was informed of the event before the Department of Homeland Security, the city, or even local organizations.
Disney World May Be Able to Keep its Self-Governing Status After All
Last Friday, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed a bill revoking Disney World’s self-governing status, after formally seeking to strip Walt Disney Co. of its tax deal with the state. De Santis sought this change after the entertainment company’s public opposition to the “Don’t Say Gay” law, but Disney World might be able to keep its self-governing status after all.
