I have been a devout vegetarian for a year and a half now, and I can confidently say that as long as my diet is my choice, I will never go back to eating meat. There are far too many benefits to not eating meat that far outweighs any perceived negative consequences. For starters, it’s the more ethical choice (when compared to the majority’s omnivorous diet). On behalf of both animals that needn’t be ranched for the sake of being slaughtered and eaten and for the environment, which- as a whole- could stand to bear a few more vegetarian converts in order to reduce the number of greenhouse gasses occupying our current atmosphere. Not to mention the wide variety of flavors and cuisines that going vegetarian opens up for people. As it turns out, in eliminating one food source, I consequently gained a whole cookbook’s worth of bold flavors and creative dishes. Since becoming vegetarian, I have felt more like the person I want to be, and I am grateful for the choice I make every day.
The Mediterranean diet is one of the most popular diets since it includes so many health benefits. It has been linked to everything from reduced early mortality rates to lower rates of heart disease. Apparently, this way of eating has been studied in the nutrition sciences world for decades. The lower saturated fat intake from this diet is the main factor that reduces heart disease since dieters intake much more plant-based foods. In the 1990’s, this diet became even more popular thanks to the Mediterranean Food Pyramid that was developed by the Harvard School of Public Health and the World Health Organization as a healthier alternative to the USDA’s original food pyramid.
The popularity of skincare over the last decade has skyrocketed, with an increased focus on self-care and prioritizing wellness every single day. However, establishing a skincare routine using jade rollers or gua sha doesn’t only help the appearance of your skin, but also your health. While these skin tools have been advertised as methods to massage products into your face, or simply destress at the end of the day, gua sha is actually one of the oldest traditional Chinese medicine treatments.
A hummus shortage can be on the horizon as the global supply of chickpeas is expected to drop by 20 percent this year, making it harder to access hummus and chickpea-related products in supermarkets. Modern-day gym culture seems to have distorted what is actually important about getting your body moving. Pressure to include the gym into your routine every day, for an hour or more can be incredibly overwhelming with everything else in your life. “The grind” may be important for some, professional athletes and bodybuilders, but if you aren’t getting joy out of the gym at 6 am, why are you really there?
Food is highly involved in American politics. No, I’m not talking about blue ice cream for Democrats or red ice cream for Republicans. The United States is often put on stage for its overweighting issues, but there is more to that than eating a lot of chips, sweets, and fast foods. It also stems from the government not fully supporting healthier food choices.
Chances are, you’ve probably experienced the discomfort of being bloated. Not only can bloating make you feel self-conscious, more importantly it can be extremely painful for some people. On Thursday, Mayor Eric Adams told NYC schools to incorporate vegan food on Fridays. New Yorkers share their pictures and thoughts on Twitter on the vegan food they received for lunch. The motive of vegan Fridays was to bring more nutrition to students, such as beans and lasagna. For some kids, it was a real treat. For others, it was simply garbage.
“Going Vegan” is currently a popular diet option, but it requires a lot of planning, cooking, and inconveniences. Although some fast-food chains have made a minor attempt to offer vegan options on their menu, it has not come in the big wave that many thought it would.
