Is Vegetarianism Really Healthy?

Is Vegetarianism Really Healthy?

I have been a devout vegetarian for a year and a half now, and I can confidently say that as long as my diet is my choice, I will never go back to eating meat. There are far too many benefits to not eating meat that far outweighs any perceived negative consequences. For starters, it’s the more ethical choice (when compared to the majority’s omnivorous diet). On behalf of both animals that needn’t be ranched for the sake of being slaughtered and eaten and for the environment, which- as a whole- could stand to bear a few more vegetarian converts in order to reduce the number of greenhouse gasses occupying our current atmosphere. Not to mention the wide variety of flavors and cuisines that going vegetarian opens up for people. As it turns out, in eliminating one food source, I consequently gained a whole cookbook’s worth of bold flavors and creative dishes. Since becoming vegetarian, I have felt more like the person I want to be, and I am grateful for the choice I make every day.

Problems with the Mediterranean Diet

Problems with the Mediterranean Diet

The Mediterranean diet is one of the most popular diets since it includes so many health benefits. It has been linked to everything from reduced early mortality rates to lower rates of heart disease. Apparently, this way of eating has been studied in the nutrition sciences world for decades. The lower saturated fat intake from this diet is the main factor that reduces heart disease since dieters intake much more plant-based foods. In the 1990’s, this diet became even more popular thanks to the Mediterranean Food Pyramid that was developed by the Harvard School of Public Health and the World Health Organization as a healthier alternative to the USDA’s original food pyramid.

Food Has a Role in Politics, a Delicious One Perhaps

Food Has a Role in Politics, a Delicious One Perhaps

Food is highly involved in American politics. No, I’m not talking about blue ice cream for Democrats or red ice cream for Republicans. The United States is often put on stage for its overweighting issues, but there is more to that than eating a lot of chips, sweets, and fast foods. It also stems from the government not fully supporting healthier food choices.
