Sarah Palin Loses House for Alaska

Democrat candidate, Mary Peltola, beat Sarah Palin in the race for Alaska’s seat in the House. The win for Petola made her the first Native Alaskan to earn a seat in the U.S. Congress. The victory for Petola is also interesting because she won the seat for the Democratic party in a state that has been considered Republican-dominated for the last several decades.

Democrat Peltola Beats Palin in Alaska Special Election Event

On Wednesday, democrat Mary Peltola won the special election for Alaska’s only U.S. House of Representative seat, stealing the seat from Republican representative Sarah Palin. The latter sought a political comeback in the state where she was once the governor. Peltola will become the first Alaska Native to serve in the House and the first woman to hold the seat. She will serve the remaining months of the late Republican U.S. Rep. Don Young’s term. Young had held the seat for 49 years before his death in March.

Recently on Friday, Sarah Palin released a statement saying that she will run for office to replace Representative Don Young who died within the past month. Former Alaska governor and Republican nominee for vice president in 2008, Palin has huge shoes to fill in. Don Young made a huge impact in giving back to his Alaskan community by improving infrastructure and supporting education for marginalized communities.
