Marine General Chris Donahue was the last U.S. soldier to leave Afghanistan. In less than three weeks, the U.S. evacuated at least 120,000 U.S. allies, citizens, and Afghan allies.
On Tuesday, the U.S. military completed a 90 percent withdrawal from Afghanistan as President Joe Biden had promised. The announcement comes days after the military officially handed over seven facilities to the Afghan Ministry of Defense. One of the facilities includes Bagram air base, the focal point of the U.S. presence in Afghanistan for the last 20 years.
