People were hopeful that a different Ministry of Education directive from March, which barred girls from attending state-run secondary schools, would be overturned at the time the order was announced.

Iran’s Gen Z leading the protest and influencing social media
Following the tragic death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini in mid-September, furious and impassioned protests erupted in dozens of Iranian cities. On September 16, Amini was arrested by the infamous Iranian “morality police” — Guidance Patrol — for allegedly “improperly” wearing her hijab. She died two days later in their custody, with bruises on her face and body.
