Texas Governor Promises Employment For Horseback Border Cops

President Joe Biden might be shocked by the recent actions of Border Patrol agents, but the Texas governor is jumping to their defense.

The president has promised to investigate and punish Border Patrol officers that aggressively blocked Haitian migrants from crossing the border near Del Rio, Texas last week. The state’s Republican governor, Greg Abbott, said on Sunday that he will hire any of the Border Patrol agents that are at risk of losing their jobs under the Biden administration.

“If Biden fires the Border Patrol Officers who were securing the border on horseback, Texas will offer them a job,” Abbott posted on Twitter. “They can bring their horses too.”

Images that surfaced last week show the agents on horseback with reins and charging at the migrant group that included children. Footage posted by Al Jazeera shows an officer yelling at a group of migrants, saying “you use your women? This is why your country’s shit, because you use your women for this,” before charging at them and almost running into a child.

Some of the photographs seem to show a few agents using the horse reins as whips against the migrants, but the photographer later said he never saw them whip anyone and that some of the pictures could be “misconstrued.”

The right-wing-governor said that the officers were simply using the reins to maneuver the horses and blamed any misbehavior on Biden for failing to keep the Haitian migrants from crossing the border.

The Department of Homeland Security announced on Thursday that the horse patrol unit in Del Rio will be temporarily suspended.
