The Best Cooking Show

I am a little bit of a cooking show enthusiast. By a little bit, I mean I have religiously watched almost every single cooking show that I’ve come across. Guy’s Grocery Games, Chopped, Master Chef, Master Chef Junior, the list goes on. Out of all of the cooking shows I’ve seen and loved, Top Chef is by far my favorite. In my opinion, it is one of the best cooking shows on television to date.

For the people who haven’t seen Top Chef, the premise is simple: out of thousands of U.S.-based chefs that audition, 17 are chosen. Those 17 chefs compete in challenges and quickfires to be the last chef and ultimately named Top Chef. The chef who wins usually goes on to earn several cooking awards, gain notoriety within the cooking world and start their own restaurant.

I prefer Top Chef over the other cooking shows because not only can the audience learn tricks here and there from professional chefs, but the competition has a level of severity that the others do not have. This is not to say that the atmosphere is strict; there seems to be more at stake for the chefs, so their approach to the challenges is different. The other cooking show I’ve seen come close to the level is Master Chef, but the chefs there are amateurs (no shade); it’s just not as pleasing for me to watch.

In addition to the cooking, Top Chef also has some drama and spicy moments between the contestants. It is a reality show at the end of the day. Excellent technique, even better-looking food, and drama, what more can we ask for from a t.v. show?
