WPAT is one of the oldest radio stations in New York. It actually played music for years. Music that included Elvis and Frank Sinatra.
In 1996 the station became multi-cultural with different formats including sports.
One of the top Latin sportscasters in New York is a gentleman named Felix Dejesus. If the name sounds familiar it’s because he has been a boxing broadcaster for many years on Showtime.
Felix also does a certain number of Yankee games per year when he can be heard doing color and play-by-play in Spanish on WADO 1280 with the legendary Ricky Ricardo.
For the last 15 years, Felix has been doing the World of the Big Leagues first on ESPN Español and when ESPN dropped the Spanish network in New York he moved the show back to WPAT.
I have had the pleasure of working with Felix for to many years to mention. I do a segment where I talk about the comings and goings of sports, especially baseball during the past week. Every once in a while I also discuss the world of entertainment if one of my film friends has a new film coming out.
Felix actually allows me to try to reach the younger generation. When I go to speak at schools around the city I have the kids understand that radio is also another source of entertainment and I always mention the school and some of the kids. They really get a kick out of that.
I take great pride in bringing on some of the best guest as possible. Felix wouldn’t have it any other way.
If you have never heard the show then do yourself a favor and tune in on Tuesday at 8 pm on WPAT 930am. and listen to Mr. Smooth Felix Dejesus.
