Two weeks through the NFL season there have already been plenty of surprises. The Bengals and Ravens are winless, and the Vikings, Bucs, and Seahawks are undefeated. We have a long way to go this season but here are my top five teams after week two.
5.San Francisco 49ers (1-1)
The Niners offense looked a little lost on Sunday without Deebo Samuel or CMC. The defense also looked lackluster as they let Sam Darnold torch them through the air. The injuries shouldn’t be an excuse but when it comes to ranking teams yet I still think that San Fran is a top five team. Without some of their star players, they make the list but at they are at the bottom.
4.New Orleans Saints (2-0)
The Saints are the biggest surprise on this list and off to the best start in the league. They have had two blowout victories, putting up 91 points over the first two games. New Orleans scored on the first 15 drives of the season where Derek Carr was the QB. Their offense has looked borderline unstoppable so far, and the defense has played well above what was expected. Although I don’t see this lasting there are undoubtedly a top five team as of right now.
3.Houston Texans (2-0)
After there week one game was a little too close for comfort, the Texans took it to the Chicago Bears in primetime on Sunday night. The Texans defensive line, which had been an issue in the past, looked great and created pressure all night long. The offense still needs some work as Diggs and Stroud begin to create a deeper connection. It’s too early to say whether or not they are for real but after week two there is no question they are top three.
2.Buffalo Bills (2-0)
The Bills absolutely dominated the Dolphins on Thursday Night Football, even prior to the injury to Tua. Going into the season I thought the losses in their secondary and to their receiving core would be too much for them to overcome. Yet so far, I have been wrong. Their run game and pass rush has been so great that it has covered up for the below par talent they have at other positions.
1.Kansas City Chiefs (2-0)
The Chiefs had a late call go their way that gave them a one-point win over the Bengals. They have looked vulnerable at times but are still undefeated and still the defending champions, which is why they are still number one. The loss of Pacheco could be big for a team that has relied more and more on the run game. Yet so far the defense has been the reason for their wins and if that continues I see KC continuing to stack ‘em.
