Traditional Lipsticks Are Done

Nothing is more annoying than spending fifteen minutes making your lipstick look just right, just to have it smeared all over your face after taking a sip of coffee or a bit of a bagel. Even the top of the line, most expensive lipsticks in the stores don’t seem to stay on for more than a few hours. Why even bother with lipstick?

Luckily, lipstick is falling out of favor, and in its place comes the revolutionary lip stain. These aren’t exactly new to the beauty game, but more and more brands are introducing their own line of lip stains that can power through anything the day brings, including drinking, eating, and nervous lip-biting.

Not all lip stains are created equal. I have used some brands that made my lips so dry I couldn’t bear to keep it on. The color stayed in place, but having my lips burning all day was not worth it for me. Other options offered just a little bit of tone to the color of my lips, but it did not have the matte definition that I was seeking.

Out of all of the stains I’ve tried, Sephora’s Cream Lip Stain was by far the winner. It both moisturizes the lips and stays on all day. It has the matte finish of lipstick and it dries instantly, so smudging is a thing of the past. On Sephora’s website, it is offered in over 80 shades, so anyone can find the right shade for their skin and lip tones. To top it all off, it is offered at a reasonable price of $15.00 per container, which cheaper than most of the lesser quality lip products.

The feel of a lip stain can take a little while to get used to, but it will make your routine so much simpler, now that you don’t have to keep reapplying your lipstick.

How Instagram has Affected Beauty Standards and Self-Image

Nowadays, one can count on one hand how many stories or pictures are posted on Instagram a day without either a filter or makeup on. And because of this, Instagram has become an unrealistic sounding board for what beauty is supposed to be, a method of comparison. Instagram posts have become the thing with which one measures beauty. Yet God forbid you to post a picture where the sun isn’t hitting you just right, or your cheeks don’t have that “naturally” flushed look, or a picture where you’re not looking off to the side with a misty look on your face, unaware of a camera. Because the beauty one strives for now, is not only unreachable but spontaneous. Or God forbid the existence of a public picture that contains blemishes on the skin and portrays a normal human being with pores.
