The Biden administration announced earlier today that representatives from both Kamala Harris’ and Donald Trump’s transition teams would be meeting for the first time at the white house. The outgoing administration made it clear that there will be a smooth transfer of power to whoever wins the election come November 5th.
Jeff Zients, the White House Chief of Staff hosted the meeting yesterday. Those present at the meeting were the government’s highest-ranking transition planning group, the Coordinating Committee, and advisors for both the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates. That said, the specific members of each candidate’s team who attended have not yet been disclosed.
This meeting took place in the Roosevelt Room, where the group discussed different transition preparations and how they can be updated. They also talked about plans to allocate office space for the nominees, appoint acting career officials to fill vacant political appointee roles during the transition of power, and prepare memos on agency operations for the next president and their team. This meeting lasted about an hour.
