Trump Slams the U.S. Olympics Women’s Soccer Team

Surprisingly, or shall we say, unsurprisingly, former President Trump had some nasty things to say about the U.S. Olympics Women’s Soccer Team on Saturday night. He mocked the athletes and called them “woke losers” for not taking home gold, but the bronze instead.

“Look at the soccer team, the women’s soccer team, they were supposed to win the gold medal.” Trump went as far as saying that they only lost because they were “woke.” He said, “The word ‘woke’ means loser. If you’re woke, you’re gonna lose.”

But what did the U.S. women soccer team do?  On July 21, before a game with Sweden, all 11 starters of the US team, along with the Swedish team, took a knee as part of pre-planned demonstration against racism and discrimination.

The team later lost that game to Sweden, and they again lost to Canada in the semifinals before taking home the bronze medal. Instead of praising the team for winning a medal, Trump said, “If our soccer team, headed by a radical group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze.”

Apparently, the worst thing that could happen to someone is to be aware of the discrimination and racism happening in the country and doing something about it, but what would we expect from someone who has failed at all of the things mentioned above?

This isn’t the first time, and it certainly won’t be the last, that Trump slammed the women’s soccer team and many athletes who decided to take a knee. U.S. soccer star Megan Rapinoe, who turned down an invite to the White House in 2019, responded to Trump’s comment.

“It’s a real sad dig into an old bag,” she said. “I’m just like, ‘You’re rooting for people to do bad?’ Yikes.” Rapinoe led the team to a gold medal in the 2012 London Olympics and was a key team member during its 2015 and 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup tournament victories.
