Bingers Beware – Outer Banks: What can viewers expect in season 2?

One of the hottest shows on Netflix just announced that they were picked up for a second season. Outer Banks is an American action-adventure mystery teen drama that exploded in popularity during quarantine this past spring. Currently sitting at a strong 7.6/10 rating on IMDb, the show has received an abundance of praise from viewers of all demographics.
The show highlights the ongoing class war between the two groups that populate the Outer Banks Island. It’s described as “the sorta place where you either have two jobs or two houses. Two tribes, one island,” by one of the main characters. The preppy rich folk, referred to as the “Kooks,” live on “Figure 8,” which is the rich side of the island. In contrast, the south side, or “the Cut,” is made up of the less fortunate working class called “Pogues.”
The group of main characters featured throughout the show (John B, JJ, Pope, and Kiara) are a likeable crew, showing the viewer what life is like living in the shadow of the Kooks. While the show may seem like another corny high school drama, it proves to be more than that as soon as the first episode.
Wallowing around amongst the marsh, the crew stumbles upon a mysterious sunken wreck that they decide to explore. As John B dives down to look for any loot the boat owner left behind, he finds something that leaves viewers on an extreme cliffhanger at the end of episode one. After returning to the surface, John B unravels the parcel he salvaged from the shipwreck only to find his missing father’s compass. This sparks the ultimate plot of the show: a treasure hunt. While this again seems super corny, it proves episode after episode to be a show you can’t stop binging.
While I won’t give away the remainder of season one, I am now going to dive into season two speculation, so if you haven’t seen season one and you plan on watching it: STOP HERE. Spoilers lie ahead.
Season 2:
After the way season one finale concluded, the setting of season two is no secret. It’s going to take place in the Bahamas. But there are some serious questions that we probably won’t see answered until it’s released on Netflix. One of those questions being, when will we actually get season two? Considering the show is receiving the green light from Netflix after its smashing release, rumors have surfaced about the second installment coming in summer 2021.
While the release date is up for debate, the characters that we will see in season two are not. All the main characters that we saw in season one will be returning. But our new setting does open doors of possibility for the introduction of new characters in the Bahamas, one being the captain of the freighter that rescued our two lovebirds, Sarah and John B.
To quote JJ, the crew is most definitely “back in the G game.” However, when Sarah and John B touch down in the Bahamas, they will have their work cut out for them. Although Sarah’s diabolical father and evil stepmother may not be there considering the legal trouble they’re in, don’t expect the gold to just be handed over to the kids. While we know this season will be heavily focused on the Bahamas storyline, one of the most interesting factors of season two will be how JJ, Kiara, and Pope will play a role in the story considering they are still in the Outer Banks.
It is an understatement to say that there are some serious decisions for the twin directors, Josh and Jonas Pate, to make. It’s going to be difficult to top the success of the first season. However, you can expect season two to reach its potential and be just as thrilling, if not more, than the first.
Pogues for life!
