The 2015 revival of Love Island was a big hit world-wide.  While originally a UK series, it was quickly adapted creating an American season in August of 2019.  During this debut season, contestants lived on an island in Fiji secluded from the outside world while on their quest to find love.  The show was quickly renewed for a second season which brought reality TV fanatics the season premiere yesterday.  However, this season came with a few new surprises.  Spoiler warning ahead.

Because of COVID-19, this reality TV show is now taking place on a rooftop of a Las Vegas casino instead of on a tropical island, but of course, that didn’t stop things from heating up amongst the contestants.  In fact, quickly after meeting the women, tensions rose as the first male contestant was introduced proving that on Love Island, it’s never too early to stir the pot. Let’s take a look at last night’s contestants and the waves they made in one night on Love Island.

Jeremiah White was the first male contestant to be introduced.  He is a 22-year-old retail sales associate from Mississippi and didn’t fail to create awkward energy from his first coupling.  Although Justine Ndiba, the 27-year-old billing coordinator and go-go dancer from New Jersey, was the only contestant to step forward and show her interest in Jeremiah, he chose to couple up with Cely Vazquez.  Cely is a 24-year-old legal secretary from California, and a popular pick amongst the guys on love island.  In fact, she was also picked by Tre Forte, a 25-year-old personal trainer from Florida.  This move benched Jeremiah until the end of the coupling ceremony which in turn coupled Jeremiah and Justine by default.

While tensions heightened amongst these contestants, some other couples seemed to find that instant connection.  James McCool, a 27-year-old personal trainer from Virginia, and Moira Tumas, a 28-year-old shopping-channel model from New Jersey, hit it off just fine sharing their first kiss quickly and earning themselves a fan-favorite title.  However, they weren’t the only ones that seemed to be connecting well.  Mackenzie Dipman, a 24-year-old student, and Connor Trott, a 23-year-old Auditor, appear to have found a great connection with one another.

The final couple of the evening was Kaitlynn Anderson, a 27-year-old in promotions, and Carrington Rodriguez, a 22-year-old sales manager.  They seemed to be getting along just fine, but when a new Islander, Johnny Middlebrooks a 22-year-old student, was introduced the audience was made aware of her interest in getting to know some of the other islanders before settling down in a couple.  Johnny ultimately chose to couple with Cely making this her third coupling of the season.

While introducing new islanders is always exciting, this season will truly be out of the ordinary.  With COVID-19, the contestants have been quarantined in anticipation of the season which is sure to add to the chaos and provide an entertaining season.
