Season two of The Umbrella Academy came out on July 31, 2020 and has been all the rage ever since.  If you haven’t yet seen the show, it is an absolute must watch, and with the second season out, there are now twenty episodes available for your next binge session. 

So, what exactly is this show all about?  The Umbrella Academy follows estranged siblings with superhuman abilities who must join forces to stop the apocalypse.  While originally reunited in an attempt to uncover the mysterious circumstances around their father’s death, they are quickly confronted with the knowledge that the world will end in eight days.

While it is becoming increasingly popular for comic series to be transformed into television shows, many have applauded The Umbrella Academy for being unique in this genre.  Breaking away from the stereotype of traditional superheroes, the characters and plotlines within this story are quite zany.  Netflix, of course, did not shy away from these weirder aspects, which has been praised by viewers and critics alike.  On top of the weirdness that surrounds the show, however, the core of the show is grounded in emotion that perfectly complements the stranger aspects. 

The plotline and structure are also coupled with a fantastic soundtrack. With season one featuring songs by They Might be Giants, Nina Simone, and Queen, many wondered if season two would be able to deliver a killer soundtrack as well.  The second season, however, brought a soundtrack that many weren’t expecting.  With songs that many claimed shouldn’t work in the context of the show, the creators of The Umbrella Academy continued to astound audiences with wild song choices that somehow fit the storyline. 

With how entirely unpredictable and wild this Netflix original is, you’ll just have to watch for yourself to see how it all truly comes together.  Season two is out now on Netflix, so watch it now, as it’s something you won’t want to miss.
