What we know about the ‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel

Disney finally confirmed last Friday that ‘Freaky Friday’ will indeed be getting a sequel. Rumors of a possible reunion between Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have swirled for years now, but fans now have an official release date.

The buzz began back in October of 2022 when Curtis made an appearance on The View. She spoke about a possible plot for a second ‘Freaky Friday’ saying, “Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon. I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma, and I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today. I wanna be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”

Although that may have been the original idea, leaks online suggest that the movie titled ‘Freaky Friday’ has a different plot. According to multiple sources online Curtis (Tess) and Lohan (Anna) will swap bodies with two teenage girls. Although these details have not been confirmed it seems as if both will become young girls and they have to live the life of high schoolers again.

Additionally, original cast members like Mark Harmon (Ryan), Chad Michael Murray (Jake), and Stephen Tobolowsky (Mr. Bates) will return. Although this film will have a new director, Nisha Ganatra, who worked on ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’.

The movie started filming in June and wrapped up in the middle of August. More details and trailers will likely be released soon.

‘Freakier Friday’ will be released in theaters on August 8th, 2025, and on Disney+ shortly thereafter.
