Female Model of the Month for December 2020
Winnie Harlow was born Chantelle Whitney Brown-Young in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. She gained popularity as a contestant on America’s Next Top Model in 2014 during the show’s twenty-first cycle. At the age of four, she was diagnosed with a chronic skin condition called vitiligo which causes depigmentation of portions of the skin. Growing up, this condition subjected her to intense bullying by her peers and led her to change schools and ultimately drop out of high school. After being discovered by Tyra Banks on Instagram, she became one of the fourteen finalists of the twenty-first cycle of America’s Next Top Model. Harlow was also the only Canadian to ever be cast on the show. In 2018, she modelled in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show and has also done advertising campaigns for Fendi, Marc Jacobs, Tommy Hilfiger, Swarovski, MAC, and many others. She has used her career as a launching point for public speaking efforts in which she shares her experience with vitiligo. In 2014, Harlow gave a TEDx presentation on the subject of her condition.
