This Sunday evening a man snuck up behind a woman waiting for her flight and stabbed her in the face. The victim, Melissa Mauldin, was taken to the hospital where she was treated for a fractured nose and received 14 stitches on her right cheek.
Mauldin was in town for her friend’s wedding in Hoboken and was returning home to Charlotte, North Carolina.
The perpetrator was a man 54-year-old man named Jin Xiong. He was quickly arrested after the attack and was charged with aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. Xiong had just been released from prison two days prior and has been in and out of jail since 2009, police say.
Mauldin took time to speak to Eyewitness News where she talked about the stabbing. “I felt the force from his fist, and the blade was so short,” she said. “I’ve never not felt secure. And I was telling my fiance Max last night, that I feel like all that security is stripped from me and I didn’t even do anything to deserve it. He wasn’t there for a flight, he had no bags, he had nothing. He was just there with the intent to hurt somebody…why are you that evil? He stabbed multiple people before”.
She also said that she wishes that Xiong stays in jail so he can’t bring harm to anybody else.
