5 Dead after possible murder-suicide in Long Island

Yesterday at 76 Wyoming Ct. in Syosset, Long Island five people were found dead in what is suspected to be a murder-suicide. Nassau County Police have identified the alleged shooter as former EMT Joseph DeLucia Jr.

According to some neighbors, DeLucia Jr. was having a difficult time dealing with the loss of his mother Theresa who passed away last week. He was also struggling because his childhood home in Syosset would soon be sold, forcing him to move out.

Wendy Paisner, who lives across the street, told reporters that Joseph DeLucia Jr. had mental issues that could have led to this happening. “It was horrible. It’s unfortunate because I don’t know what kind of help he got for his [psychological issues] whatever it was. He definitely had some psych problems… There were challenges…but his mother passed away and I think that triggered him. You know, that they were selling the house.” She said.

Another neighbor of the DeLucia’s, Sandy Landsman spoke to the New York Post saying, “We heard a high-pitched scream, it was Joe screaming, then one shot. I was shocked. I never would have thought beforehand that this would happen. His mother died last week. The siblings were getting ready to sell the house. We heard he was very upset over this. He didn’t know where to go, he had lived there his whole life. One of the siblings said she would take care of him that she would let him come and live with her. Apparently, that didn’t sound too good to him,” she added.

The authorities are continuing to investigate the situation and identify the other four victims, but according to others living on the block, they were likely other members of DeLucia’s family.
