Oscar nominated film director David O. Russel is set to direct an upcoming biopic on the life of singer Linda Ronstadt starring singer-songwriter, actress, and teen idol Selena Gomez. This biopic will follow the 2019 documentary “Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice”, which captured her incredible, diverse, and long music career that spanned almost five decades. The biopic itself as of now is in pre-production, with Ronstadt’s managers John Boylan and James Keach (who oversaw the documentary Linda and the Mockingbirds), as per Rolling Stone.
Both Selena and Linda are well-renowned and accomplished singers, and both are of half-Mexican decent. Russel on the other hand, is a three-time Best Director nominee at the Academy Awards, as stated by Rolling Stone. News of the biopic came about when Gomez shared a post of Ronstadt’s 2023 memoir on her Instagram.
Ronstadt has experimented with a wide range of genres throughout her career from rock to Latin to even country; she has released 29 albums, and has won 11 Grammy awards. The icon retired after being diagnosed with Parkinsons disease and Progressive Supranuclear Palsy.
Casting details, a title, and a release date of the biopic have not yet been released; but given the impressive line up of stars behind this film it should be interesting to see.
