‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ original scores top 29th Critics’ Choice Awards

Social media erupted with Ryan Gosling’s deadpan reaction as “I’m Just Ken” won Best Song at Sunday’s 29th Critics’ Choice Awards.

Songwriters Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt received the award on stage, with Ronson additionally thanking Gosling and “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig, both seated in the audience.

“Ryan Gosling, this is as much your award as ours,” Ronson said. “You made the audience fall in love with this song with your matchless performance, so thank you.”

To Gerwig, Ronson proclaimed, “The fact that you carved out 11 minutes for this prog-rock, power ballad, dream ballet, shred-fest so the boys could cry and hold hands a little too, we’re really forever in your debt for that.”

“Barbie”’s movie twin “Oppenheimer” took home the award for Best Score. Ludwig Göransson’s haunting orchestral score previously won the same award at the Golden Globes – setting up a likely Oscar for best original score.

The Golden Globes’ choice for Best Song was Billie Eilish and Finneas’ “What Was I Made For?” also from “Barbie.” Both it and Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night” were nominated alongside “Ken,” putting the film at the spot of most-nominated film at the 29th awards with eighteen nominations.

For film awards, “Oppenheimer” ultimately came out at the top of the Critics’ Choice with eight awards – including best picture and best director – followed closely by “Barbie” with six and “The Holdovers” with three. For the latter, cast members Paul Giamatti, Da’Vine Joy Randolphand Dominic Sessa took home the awards for best actor, best supporting actress and best young actor, respectively.

“The Bear” and “Beef” tied for the top spot among TV awards.
