Childish Gambino Releases Final Album
After an eight-year absence, Childish Gambino made a return to the rap game in May 2024 with his album Atavista. Gambino, real name Donald Glover, has starred in shows and movies like Community, Atlanta, and Mr. and Mrs. Smith. During this time there was a shortage of music by Gambino, his alter ego. Many fans were ecstatic to find out that Gambino was back to making music after he gifted them new work. He surprised them yet again when he announced yet another album for 2024, titled ‘Bando Stone and The New World’.
With the news of this album came the declaration of Glover’s official retirement of the Childish Gambino persona. When asked about his decision to put an end to the moniker, he said, “It was just like, oh, it’s done…It’s not fulfilling. And I just felt like I didn’t need to build in this way anymore.” To the dismay of his listeners, ‘Bando Stone and The New World’ will be their last chance to hear Gambino.
The album sees Gambino rapping in a similar fashion to what we as fans are used to. His aggressive style is on display in tracks like Talk My and Got To Be. Yet with lyrics about his son and becoming a father, we also see a new side of Gambino. Songs like Running Around, Dadvocate and Real Love show a much more gentle and chill version of Gambino. Overall the album has a lot of solid songs perfect for the summer.
Although the Gambino name brought Glover onto the scene and won him five Grammys with 12 nominations, Glover seems adamant about leaving it behind. But don’t fret, Glover will be continuing to make music under his real name. He has already done this before for some of his films and more appears to be on the way.
