3 Possible Replacements for the Democratic Nominee

Last Sunday it was made public that President Joe Biden would be dropping out of the 2024 Presidential election. President Biden penned a letter making this announcement. In a subsequent statement he endorsed current Vice President Kamala Harris as the next Democratic nominee for president. Even with that, the Democratic National Committee Chair Jaime Harrison has said, “In the coming days, the party will undertake a transparent and orderly process to move forward,”. Aside from Harris, here are some possible candidates to step up as the Democrat’s newest nominee.

  1. Josh Shapiro- Pennsylvania’s Governor assumed office in 2023, yet with only a year and change under his belt it feels as if he is already ready to take a bigger step. When asked if he talked to Harris about the possibility of being her VP, he did not deny that those discussions took place. He said, “We spoke only about beating Donald Trump,”. At the very least he seems like a real choice for VP if the Dems don’t decide to make him their lead man.
  2. Gavin Newsom- Newsom, the current Governor of California has repeatedly said that he is not interested in running for President of the United States and that he is “all in” on Joe Biden. Now with Biden out of the way, many Democrats can’t help but think it’s possible he changes his mind. He has plenty of experience being in a position of power serving as both Lieutenant Governor and Governor of California. Plus he has experience on the debate stage where he went face to face with Ron Desantis.
  3. Marianne Williamson- Finally, a dark horse candidate is Marianne Williamson. Williamson has been one of the only Democrats to challenge the way in which Harris has been “anointed” and has a problem with her being “rubber stamped” into being the next nominee as she puts it. “The tact that many people are taking is let’s have everyone endorse her, let’s have everyone stand in line…this is not democracy.”, she said on ABC News. Williamson has her eyes set on bringing democracy back into the way things are done, and her willingness to do so gives her a fighting chance.
