Harris set to meet with VP Finalists this weekend

According to CNN’s Alayna Treene, Harris is expected to meet with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker this weekend.

The New York Times has also reported that “The law firm hired by the Harris campaign to investigate potential vice-presidential candidates has completed its work”.  This brings them to the final step of choosing a VP candidate, which is a face-to-face interview. This puts the ball in Kamala’s court to make the final decision.

Due to Joe Biden dropping out of the race late, Harris has been forced to follow a fast-paced timeline. As a result, she has yet to meet any of the finalists in person. This makes these upcoming interviews even more pivotal.

Something Harris will likely take into consideration is the states these candidates are from. Come November, swing states like Pennsylvania and Arizona will be crucial for the election. Having a VP who was a governor in that state like Shapiro or Kelly could be a huge boost for potentially landing even more voters.

With Kamala Harris expected to announce her running mate on Tuesday, these next few days will be crucial in making her final decision.
