Jets Fire Head Coach

After yet another disappointing loss for the Jets this weekend, the New York Jets decided to fire their head coach Robert Saleh. The final decision was made by the team owner Woody Johnson. Johnson released the following statement earlier this morning.

“This morning, I informed Robert Saleh that he will no longer serve as the Head Coach of the Jets. I thanked him for his hard work these past three-and-a-half years and wished him and his family well moving forward. This was not an easy decision, but we are not where we should be given our expectations, and I believe now is the best time for us to move in a different direction.”

He continued, announcing the team’s interim coach: “Jeff Ulbrich (the team’s current defensive coordinator) will serve as our Interim Head Coach for the remainder of the season. He is a tough coach who has the respect of the coaches and players on this team. I believe he along with the coaches on this staff can get the most out of our talented team and attain the goals we established this offseason.”

Many have speculated that this move was finalized due to Saleh’s relationship with quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Many sideline videos and interviews have created a narrative that the two did not get along.

Whether or not Rodgers had anything to do with the move, Saleh’s 20-36 record over his three-plus years did not exactly move the needle for Woody Johnson. Reports say that Johnson had Saleh escorted out by Jets security and did not give him the chance to inform the players he was being fired.
