After getting shutout in game one, the Mets looked to bounce back in game two of the Nation League Championship Series yesterday afternoon. New York did just that.
Lindor started things off with a solo shot in the top of the first. In the second, a Tyrone Taylor double scored Starling Marte, and an intentional walk to Lindor loaded the bases for Mark Vientos. Vientos took a fastball down the pipe 391 feet giving the Mets a 6-0 lead.
New York didn’t look back, and despite a home run from Max Muncy, they were able to win the game pretty convincingly, 7-3.
Sean Manaea had another great outing, pitching five innings, letting up just two hits and striking out seven batters. Although he let up two runs, he did a nice job silencing the Dodger bats. Most importantly, shutting down Shohei Ohtani who went hitless.
When asked about stopping Ohtani postgame, New York’s closer Edwin Diaz said, “He’s one of the best hitters in the league, but I’ve got really good stuff, I just go after him. Hit the ball, if you get to two strikes, I will make you chase.”
Ohtani has been the best player in baseball all year long and is the reason the Dodgers have made it this far. That said, yesterday Ohtani went 0-3, with three walks. The Mets were able to keep him in check and will need to continue to do so to advance to the World Series.
Game three’s first pitch is scheduled for tomorrow night at 8:08 p.m., the series heading to Queens.
