Op-Ed: Why Korean and Japanese Makeup Brands are Superior

Korean and Japanese makeup brands have proven superior to their Western counterparts. Brands like Dasique, Club Clio, and Entropy are changing the makeup game.

One of the main reasons Korean and Japanese makeup brands dominate the market is their integration of skincare into makeup products, which protects our skin instead of damaging it.

Unlike Western makeup brands, many Asian beauty brands understand that makeup can double as skincare. This means that products like foundations, primers, and concealers often feature added ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, and SPF, enhancing the appearance and nourishing and protecting the skin.

Korean and Japanese makeup tend to be more innovative than Western makeup. Take Club Clio, for example. Like the Kill Cover foundation, their products offer full coverage with an ultra-light feel, which is very difficult to find in Western makeup brands.

Canmake is another brand that offers light products that don’t make makeup look cakey. Products like their Marshmallow Setting Powder will leave your skin light and bright, and your pores will thank you.

Many Japanese brands offer revolutionary hair care products besides just makeup brands. Brands like & Honey have some of the best shampoos and conditioners you will ever try.

Integrating advanced technology in their formulas also sets Korean and Japanese beauty products apart from Western ones. For example, using microencapsulation technology, which allows active ingredients to be released gradually over time, ensures that your skin receives long-lasting benefits throughout the day. However, this technology seems less common in Western brands, as they prioritize trends over innovation.

Another noteworthy aspect is the packaging design of many Asian beauty products, which are often described as cute and aesthetic. Not only will you be getting your money’s worth with the products themselves, but you also get to beautify your vanity.

Clearly, Korean and Japanese brands have set the bar high, but it’s only a matter of time before they become more popular than Western brands.
