Op-Ed: Lip Oils Are In, Lip Gloss Is Out

I’m not sure when or where the lip oil craze started, but it looks like it’s here to stay. Many brands such as Summer Fridays, Fenty Beauty and Well People have already embraced the growing trend and launched their own lip oils.

Gone are the days of the over-glossed, ultra-tacky finish that left strands of hair stuck to your lips with every gust of wind. Lip oils are here to save the day, bringing a more nourishing option to the table. Lip oils are usually infused with nourishing ingredients like jojoba oil, vitamin E, and antioxidants, which not only create a luscious shine but also provide a dose of moisture. This makes lip oils a more natural, healthier option to lip gloss.

Lip oils also often have a lighter feel, which lets you layer them without the heaviness of lip glosses. It can compliment any makeup style, from minimalist to bold. Unlike lip gloss with its thick consistency, lip oils are more effortless and better for every-day wear.

The increasing diversity of lip oil products is also remarkable. There are tinted options, clear formula, chilling and plumping oils, there’s something for everyone. Lip oils are perfect if you want to enhance your natural lips over putting on layers of makeup.

One of my favorite lip oils is by the brand NYX. It’s available at any target and it just makes my lips feel fresh and glossy all the time. This lip oil was only $8.99 but as you start looking at more luxury brands like Dior they can start pricing up to $50.

Whether you’re putting on a tinted lip oil for a casual look or layering one over a matte lipstick for extra shine, it’s time to say goodbye to the sticky, glossy past and a new and improved product for hydrating lip care.
