OpenAI In Hollywood May Unfortunately Be Inevitable

AI technologies have made strides since the beginning of the 2020s. At one point, they were only a unique piece of technology that would eventually die off. Unfortunately, that would be proven false. AI technologies are now more alive than ever before and are dangerously close to seriously impacting creative fields.

Many artists in the entertainment field could see the writing on the wall and began fighting back earnestly. Most notable was the Actor and Writer strikes of 2023, which brought the threat of AI to workers in Hollywood to the mainstream. However, it does not seem like these efforts are paying off.

No matter how many people may deny it, the most well-known entertainment companies in the industry have still been contemplating using the technology despite constant warnings and concerns from workers.

If AI were fully integrated into the entertainment industry, workflows would change radically. Thousands of jobs, including concept art, script writing, and VFX, could be affected.

While many companies could sell their venture towards using AI technologies as “democratizing” the entertainment industry to the public, it’s becoming clear that AI is a great way of saving money by cutting production costs.

Now, with the Trump Administration’s strengthening ties towards AI companies will only be incentivized to include the technology in their products. That said, while the rise of AI might seem hopeless to stop, fans of film and TV can still make their voices heard through supporting independent projects or industry unions.
