Bio

Manuel Arístides Ramírez Onelcida aka Manny Ramirez Is a Dominican-American former professional baseball player. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, developed a love for baseball at a young age. Throughout his school years, Ramirez played the sport, leading him to be named New York City Public School Player of the Year in his senior year of high-school.

Ramirez began his baseball career in the minor leagues, with the Cleveland Indians selecting him in 1991 MLB draft. He played for Burlington Indians and got named Appalachian League MVP. Eventually, Rameriz made his Major League debut with the Indians two years later. After a weak start Ramirez quickly dominated the field, and ending his first year in second place for the Rookie of the Year award.

Ramirez stayed with the Indians until 2001, when he accepted a contract with the Boston Red Sox. He played on the team for seven years, hitting his 500th home run and helping the team win a World Series game by 2008. While he had the chance of becoming a free agent, Ramirez was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

His career continued with the LA team until a controversy surrounding his uncovered use of steroids led him to be suspended for a short time. Ramirez was claimed by the Chicago White Sox for the remainer of his 2010 season after the Dodgers placed him on waivers. After the season ended, Ramirez became a free agent and entered in a one-year deal with the Tampa Bay Rays, however, he had abruptly retired after testing positive once again for drug use. This led to him serving a 100-game suspension from any MLB-affiliated team. Luckily, it was brought down to a 50-game suspension after formally filing for reinstatement.

Following his suspension, Ramirez continued playing for minor league teams like Oakland Athletics system,Texas Rangers system and even in the  Dominican Professional Baseball League. Ramirez has also found successful work as a player coach.
