As Gen Z is growing up and becoming old enough to have babies and buy houses, Millennials are reaching the place where they have roots in the ground and more discretionary income. It doesn’t sound like there’s a huge difference between the two, but having roots in the ground requires time and stability while starting a family takes two capable, baby-making bodies and doesn’t require much pre-planning. There is a gap in maturity and life experience between these two stages of life that both groups could benefit from sharing with one another. Millennials can share their life experiences and gain fulfillment from nurturing the younger generation and Gen Z can have a community of people that isn’t just family guiding them and giving perspective that their parents might not have.
Gen Z and Gen Alpha aren’t the only ones who can learn something either. As the older generations become stuck in their ways and teach those ways of thinking to the younger generation, the younger generations’ brains develop different ways of thinking that their elders couldn’t even consider. By talking to the kids and young adults, older generations have the chance to unlearn some anxieties and other generational traumas that are baked into how we speak to one another.
When we come together and learn to listen to one another, not only can we learn a lot, we can heal old wounds and create a way of life that is safer and healthier for everyone.
