Amid the NFL Offseason have been draft predictions and potential signings. Within those rumblings, it’s bound that rumors of a team’s direction are imminent. Especially because one organization has been an active name in those talks. The team in question – the Detroit Lions. Last season, they secured 1st place in the NFC North – with a 15-2 record. The Lions suffered a first-round exit from the Washington Commanders in the postseason, but that should not mean there were signs of internal friction in the organization – up until now.
Receiver Jameson Williams has possibly thought otherwise about the Lions. In a series of social media posts, Williams wrote “Stay Sucka Free” and “Loyalty b4 any n everything”. This comes off as a concern due to Williams being a focal part of the Lion’s offense. Plus, last season was his breakout with 58 receptions for 1,001 yards with seven touchdowns – averaging 17.3 yards per reception.
In Addition, Williams is entering the final year of his four-year rookie deal. The Lions, interestingly, were considering picking him up for a fifth-year option, but with the cryptic posts, it’s becoming tough to keep him. Rumors have been circulating prior that Williams was on the trade block, but another report refuted claiming that the Lions have no interest unless it is for a 1st round pick. The Detroit Lions also are set to pick 28th in the NFL Draft 1st round, so anything can happen.
All in all, this situation could lead to a tearjerker if the Lions have no choice but to trade. A horrible decision, to be frank, considering that Jameson Williams had a successful season with the team last year. Plus, Detroit sports is recently going through a moment of success right now with the Pistons breaking their playoff drought. The hope is that the situation does not lead to a franchise-altering moment, but in a cold business, it’s something to look out for.
